Orthopedic Massage for Chronic Pain or Injury
We specialize in helping people with pain, tingling, tension, or tightness reduce or eliminate these symptoms through orthopedic bodywork and yoga as therapy

What is Orthopedic Massage?

Most people in O'fallon, Belleville, Fairview Heights, and the surrounding Scott Air Force Base areas have no idea what orthopedic massage therapy is.

They hear the words “massage therapy” and think of wellness massages or day spas. Then they hear “orthopedic,” and think of sports massage, deep tissue massage, or some form of painful treatments.

The literal definition of orthopedic is to straighten or correct, and that is what orthopedic massage therapy does.  In reality, orthopedic massage therapy is a specialty that identifies and corrects musculoskeletal issues in people’s bodies.

Unlike traditional massage therapy, Orthopedic Massage describes a comprehensive system, rather than a single technique, that involves therapeutic assessment, manipulation and movement of soft tissues to resolve pain and dysfunction.

Its focus is restoring function and structural balance throughout the body for both prevention and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal dysfunctions.

Orthopedic Massage is the manipulation of the soft tissue in the body as they pertain to orthopedic conditions with the disciplined intent to promote a healing environment.

It is target-specific, purposeful bodywork that aims to eliminate the symptoms of pain and dysfunction by focusing on the source of it all.

A typical session of orthopedic massage involves an initial intake of your medical background, daily activities and areas of concern.  We ask a lot of questions to help discover the best treatment plan.

Gait and postural analysis may be used, along with some muscle testing and movement screening.  The time spent on the treatment table is unlike what you would expect from your run-of-the-mill spa or wellness center.  This is not a “fluff-and-buff, spa massage”.

It is effective, medically supported manual therapy for hurting bodies.

Undivided attention is given to the chief areas of complaint for the maximum benefit of the client.  With the right approach, touch and sound reason for treatment, a client once hindered and disabled by sciatic pain (for example) can walk out of a therapists’ office, pain-free and unrestricted.

If you suffer from a longstanding pain with little-to-no improvement over time and under treatment, you may benefit greatly from the knowledgeable and skilled hands of a manual therapist.

Orthopedic Massage provides you with a means to heal more quickly from painful conditions, a recent surgery, or perhaps avoid surgery altogether.

If any of these statements sound familiar, or if you suffer from longstanding pain with little to no improvement over time and under treatment, you may benefit greatly from Orthopedic Bodywork.

• Functional musculoskeletal assessment
• Customized and integrated massage and bodywork
